Contact-lens care
Core habits that support safe contact-lens wear, with the important reminder to follow instructions for your own lens and care system.

Clean and dry hands
Wash and dry hands thoroughly before touching lenses or the eye. Handle lenses over a clean surface and follow the sequence demonstrated by the practitioner.
Keep water away
Water can expose contact lenses to organisms and is not a substitute for sterile care products. Follow the practitioner’s instructions about showering, swimming, rinsing and what to do after accidental water contact.
Use the prescribed system
Solutions and cases are not interchangeable. Never improvise a care routine or use saliva. Replacement, disinfection and storage instructions depend on the lens and product supplied.
Respond to symptoms
Remove a lens and seek prompt professional advice if the eye becomes painful, markedly red, light-sensitive or suddenly blurred. Do not simply wait for significant symptoms to pass while continuing lens wear.
