Parents and children
Practical ways to support a child through eye examinations, myopia monitoring and contact-lens learning.

Explain what will happen
Use simple, calm language: the practitioner will ask questions, check how clearly the child sees, examine the eyes and explain what the results mean. Avoid promising that every test will be quick or that a particular option will be prescribed.
Notice patterns
Bring examples from school, sport, reading, screens and distance viewing. Previous prescriptions and family history can help the clinician understand change over time.
Build safe lens habits together
Children can learn contact-lens care when they are ready and have appropriate support. Parents or carers should understand the routine, supervise as advised and keep follow-up appointments.
